Assignment 1 - Analysis

This is a male fragnance advertisement aimed at older men in their 20s- mid 40s. The colours used in this advert are on the lighter side of the colour wheel, creating a steady toned and tropical feel about the advertisement. By giving off this interpretation of the shower wash, it attracts people due to the fact many themselves would much rather be in a tropical setting and this can take it one step closer. This also enhances the product itself due to the fact it is darker than the theme its presented in, with the text being the same colour as the product making it more obvious to the audience and more visible due to the background it is on. The photo is placed on a sandy beach with a light blue, calm sea behind the model who is riding a white horse. The shower wash called 'old spice' is written in a older text and more fancy, they used this to connote how it is classy but also the scent has been working well for men for a longer time period than most 'new' fragnances do now. The setting of the photo connotes that the smell is also fresh and clean due to the fact it is placed on a beach which is clear of any dirt. The realistic aspects of this advert aren't very high but at the same time, can still happen. Normally you won't see a man in white jeans parading on a white horse holding a body wash but at the same time, anyone could easily do it. The shot used is a mid shot which is mainly used to show the character and the background. This is well used because it shows the expression of the model and shows the aspect of the background. The model used is quite well built and a 'ideal body' type that men generally aim towards. This can make the audience pulled towards the product sub consciously, wishing to be more like the desirable model. The costume choice of the model shows class and 'high standards' but also has a comedic side to it, his white jeans shows cleanness. With the NVC of the model being humorous but also an aspect of seriousness, will easily stand out to the audience as most men would find it funny.
